From Zarzis, your journey to Tataouine takes you through the changing landscapes of southern Tunisia, from coastal palm groves and semi-desert steppes to sandy tracks leading into the Berber heartland.
Very quickly, the scenery becomes more arid and authentic, revealing the raw beauty of the southern regions.
Along the way, you'll stop to take in panoramic views, capture memorable photos, and explore lesser-known sites far from the usual tourist routes.
One of the highlights of the day is the visit to several ksour, traditional communal granaries built in stone or clay, once used for storing grains and olive oil.
Each ksar reflects the ancestral know-how and social organization of Berber and Arab communities between the 15th and 17th centuries. Their unique architecture, blending seamlessly into the landscape, tells the living story of the region’s heritage.
Tataouine is more than just a symbolic name it has become part of pop culture thanks to Star Wars. It was here that the film crew found inspiration to name the desert planet “Tatooine”.
And if the phrase "going to Tataouine" is often used in French to refer to a remote place, it's because a former French military penal colony once stood on the nearby hilltops now gone, but still remembered.
Located approximately 100 km from Tataouine, Zarzis offers a perfect combination of seaside relaxation and a starting point for discover southern Tunisia.

Visit Ksar Ouled Soltane, famous for its grain granaries, and one of the filming locations for Star Wars films.

Transfer to the Berber village of Chenini.

Guided tour of the Berber village of Chenini, lasting approximately 40 minutes.
