Located about 200 km from Zarzis, the town of Douz, nicknamed "the gateway to the desert", is a lively oasis and the starting point for all desert escapades.

Your day begins as soon as you are picked up at 6:30 a.m. in front of your accommodation in Zarzis.

Direction Douz, where you will be immersed in the authentic atmosphere of the local market. Immerse yourself in this whirlwind of colors, sounds and scents, a true feast for the senses. Then, enjoy an authentic Saharan experience with a one-hour camel ride through the golden sand dunes, reminiscent of the trans-Saharan camels of yesteryear.

At midday, during a lunch break, you will be served a delicious meal of local specialties in the restaurant.

This moment of relaxation in Douz will allow you to savor traditional cuisine while sharing your morning impressions.

The adventure continues in the afternoon with a visit to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte dwellings. These underground houses dug into the earth offer a fascinating insight into local life. You will be able to explore these unique homes and recognize some of the sets used in the Star Wars films.

After this day full of discoveries and adventures, you will return to Zarzis with unforgettable memories of your exploration of the Tunisian desert and Matmata.

PROGRAM OF THE DAY TRIP TO DOUZ AND MATMATA

Pick-up at 6:00 a.m. in front of your place of stay in Zarzis and departure for Douz.
Arrival in Douz around 10 a.m.
Coffee break and free time in the souk (the livestock market is on Thursday).
Immersion in the desert with a ride of approximately one hour, on the back of a camel.
Lunch at the restaurant.
Departure for Matmata and visit the troglodyte houses. (Douz > Matmata 65 km, 1h10 journey).
Visit to the Sidi Idriss hotel, the Lars farm, Star Wars, Mos Espa episode 1.
Return and drop-off around 5:30 p.m. in front of your place of stay in Zarzis.

Information:
Transportation is either by 4x4 or minibus depending on the number of participants.

Our vehicles can be equipped with baby seats on request.

This excursion is not open to people with reduced mobility.
