Ksar Ouled Soltane:

Recognizable at a glance, Ksar Ouled Soltane is a fortified Arab granary used as slave quarters in Tatooine by George Lucas.

 

Remarkably preserved, this ksar is among the most beautiful in the country and remains a hidden gem for many tourists.

 

Ksar Hadada:

Ksar Hadada also served as a backdrop for the slave quarters of Mos Espa.

 

This is where the memorable scene was filmed where Qui-Gon Jinn contacts Obi-Wan Kenobi to ask him to analyze the midichlorian count in Anakin's blood, as well as the scene where Shmi, Anakin’s mother, reveals that her son has no father.

 

Matmata and Uncle Owen's House:

Matmata is a unique destination, famous for its troglodyte dwellings.

 

These homes, primitive yet fascinating, are either underground or carved into the mountainside.

 

Thanks to their construction in the rock, they provide a cool space despite the intense outside heat.

 

It is in Matmata that the Sidi Driss Hotel served as the set for Uncle Owen’s house in 1976 and again in 2000. Still in operation, the Sidi Driss Hotel welcomes fans for visits, offering an exclusive look at the Star Wars legacy.

 

The hotel is divided into five courtyards, with the fifth aptly named the "Star Wars courtyard."

 

This is where the dining room of the Lars homestead and the main courtyard of the house were filmed.

 

Sidi Bouhlel Canyon:

This magnificent canyon served as the backdrop for the Jundland Wastes. It is here that Luke and C-3PO find R2-D2 before being attacked by the Tatooine scavengers, the Jawas, and rescued by Uncle Ben.

 

In Episode I, it is from the cliffs of this canyon that the hidden Jawas shoot during the podrace. Sidi Bouhlel Canyon is an incredibly beautiful natural landscape worth visiting even outside the Star Wars context.

 

Chott el-Gharsa Mos Espa:

Chott el-Gharsa houses an entire district of Mos Espa, the Tatooine village where Anakin works in Episode I.

 

This set, entirely created for the saga, is located in the middle of the desert.

 

In Episode I, we see Qui-Gon Jinn, Padme, and Jar Jar Binks strolling through the streets, and Jar Jar is tempted by the food stalls in the Mos Espa market.

 

In Episode II, these sets reappear during Anakin's visit to Watto.
