BERBER AND DESERT TREK THREE- DAY TOUR FROM TOZEUR

Let yourself be tempted by this exceptional three-day tour, which will take you from Tozeur to discover the culture and landscape of the Berber region of Matmata, Tataouine and the desert at Ksar Ghilane.

Your adventure will begin with a pick-up from your place of stay in Tozeur towards Matmata and the Berber region of Tataouine.
We will cross the Chott El Jerid towards Matmata, where you will have the opportunity to visit a troglodyte house with locals.

After lunch, a guided tour of the village of Chenini will allow you to discover the picturesque streets and stone houses of this fortified village.

You will then leave for a 2.5 hour trek between the perched Berber villages of Chenini and Douiret, you will appreciate the beauty of the landscapes and the richness of local history.

This walk through traditional villages offers a unique perspective on the daily lives of the region's inhabitants.

After a night in a troglodyte lodge, on the second day, you will discover the desert during a night in a Saharan camp, an authentic experience where you can admire the starry sky of the Sahara.

The next day, you will leave for Douz, where you will have lunch at the restaurant, then visit the silted village of Zafraane, the irrigation system of the palm grove, the canyon of Sidi Bouhlel, before returning to Tozeur.

THREE-DAY TREKPROGRAM FROM TOZEUR TO KSAR GHILANE

Day 1:

Pickup at 7:30 AM from your accommodation.
Departure towards Tataouine, the capital of the Berber region.
Visit Ksar Ouled Soltane, one of the many granaries in the region.
Visit Ksar Beni Barka.
Lunch at a restaurant in Guermassa.
Guided tour of the perched village of Chenini, a must-see in the region.
Departure for a 2.5-hour trek in the Djebel Dahar from Chenini to the village of Douiret.
Arrival at the village of Douiret.
Free time, followed by dinner and overnight stay in a troglodyte guesthouse.

Day 2:

Breakfast at the troglodyte guesthouse.
Departure towards the oasis of Ksar Ghilane.
Lunch at a restaurant at the foot of the dunes of Ksar Ghilane.
Optional: Quad ride (€30/hour) or camel ride (€15/hour) in the desert.
Free time to enjoy the oasis.
Swim in the 32°C hot spring (if desired).
Transfer by 4x4 to the Saharan camp, located 20 km south of Ksar Ghilane.
Setup at the comfortable camp in Saharan tents (double tents).
Witness the traditional bread baking ceremony in the sand.
Dinner at the camp, followed by a walk in the dunes and stargazing (weather permitting).
Overnight stay in your private tent.

Day 3:

Breakfast at the Saharan camp.
Free time to enjoy the desert.
Departure by 4x4 to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses and Star Wars filming locations.
Lunch with a local family in the village of Tamezret.
Visit Matmata.
Return and drop-off at your accommodation in the late afternoon, around 5:30 PM.

The transfer is made either by 4X4 or by microbus depending on the number of participants.

Our vehicles can be equipped with baby seats on request.

This trek is not open to people with reduced mobility.

Your adventure begins in Tozeur, where we pick you up to take you through the lunar landscape of Chott El Jerid towards Matmata.

Soak up the local culture with an authentic lunch at a local's home before heading to the picturesque village of Chenini.

Once in Chenini, you will be guided through its narrow streets and stone houses, before starting a two-hour walk to the village of Douiret.

Your day will conclude with dinner and an overnight stay in a troglodyte lodge, an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Day 2: Adventure in the Tataouine Desert in Ksar Ghilane

On the second day, you head towards Tataouine to explore the magnificent Ksar Ouled Soltane.

After admiring this historic site, you will have lunch in a local restaurant in the village of Guermassa.

The afternoon will be marked by the departure towards Ksar Ghilane, accessible by track or route depending on the season.

Here you will have free time to relax in a natural hot spring or opt for a quad or camel ride.

In the evening, you will attend a sand bread baking demonstration before spending a magical night under the stars in a private desert camp.

Day 3: From Douz to Tozeur

Your last day will begin with a moment of serenity in the desert, followed by an invigorating breakfast.

Then you will depart for Douz, where lunch will await you in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will discover the palm grove's innovative irrigation system and visit the impressive petrified dunes.

We will conclude this extraordinary adventure by taking you back through the Chott El Jerid to your place of stay in Tozeur.
