HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 4-DAY 4X4 TOUR IN SOUTH TUNISIA
Get ready for an unforgettable adventure through southern Tunisia!
Your private four-day tour begins at 8:00 AM with a pickup at Djerba airport.
You will start your journey with the discovery of the Berber region in the southeast of the country.
Here, you will be captivated by numerous iconic Berber villages such as Matmata, Toujane, and Tamezret, where you will have lunch at a local's home after visiting Matmata and its troglodyte houses.
Next, you will head west, passing through Douz, a city known for its vast palm groves producing the delicious "Deglet Nour" dates and nicknamed "The
Gateway to the Desert."
Then, you will cross the Chott El Jerid, which stretches as far as the eye can see, the largest depression in North Africa, where you may see mirages.
After this spectacular crossing, you will arrive in Tozeur to explore its traditional medina, with narrow streets and houses adorned with light-colored bricks.
You will dine and spend two nights in a 4-star hotel, Ksar Rouge or equivalent, or, if you prefer, dine at a restaurant and stay in a guesthouse.
After your first night in Tozeur, you will head further west to reach the mountain range at the end of the Saharan Atlas, near the Algerian border.
Here, numerous springs gush forth in the heart of the desert landscape, forming small shaded oases.
You will be fascinated by the mountain oases, particularly Tamerza with its waterfalls, Mides with its deep canyons, and the splendid Chebika oasis offering a panoramic view of the desert.
In the late afternoon, visit the Star Wars set located in the desert and watch the sunset before ending the day with a visit to the Nefta basket and returning to the hotel or guesthouse for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
You will head south, where the arid landscape gradually gives way to the impressive Sahara.
The Great Eastern Erg will reveal itself to you, with its majestic sand dunes. From the bright white sands in Douz to the deep ochre hues in Ksar Ghilane, the panorama is simply breathtaking.
You will head towards Ksar Ghilane, stopping again in Douz for lunch, before departing to discover the desert.
In Ksar Ghilane, you can swim in the spring where water gushes out at 32°C, or take a quad bike or camel ride.
In the late afternoon, you will take the 4x4 to the southern Saharan camp, located at the foot of a magnificent dune cordon, 20 km of track from Ksar Ghilane.
You will witness the sunset if the weather permits, see a demonstration of baking bread in the sand, dine at the Saharan restaurant, and spend the night in your private tent in the desert.
On the last day, return to the Berber region of Tataouine, where you will visit numerous Berber and Arab ksour, such as the village of Chenini and Ksar Ouled Soltane. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Guermassa before heading back and being dropped off at Djerba airport in the late afternoon.
